Covid-19 is not going away anytime soon
It’s been an uneventful year and we’re still in the midst of a pandemic. As we get back to working on set, there are many more precautions that we need to take. It is important take of and protect the person in your chair and work in a manner that shows that you are a makeup artist who takes his/her job seriously.
As a makeup artist, cleanliness is extremely important. Your area, kit, brushes and tools must be clean and sanitized at all times. I’ve worked on set for many years and I have been embarrassed to see the condition of some set ups. My hope is that as a result of knowing and understanding the potential effects of Covid-19, that everyone steps up their game.
In this blog, I am going to share with you items that I feel you should have. Use this as a guide as you work towards updating your kit.

Personal Protection Equipment
Wearing a mask and/or face shield is no fun, but it is necessary to help prevent the spread of the virus. On set guidelines are becoming more strict so be sure you are prepared.
Sanitation & Disinfecting
You should have quick access to these items to use frequently.

There is more
The list provided are essentials, there are other products and tools you should have in your kit.
- Set Bag – Be sure your on set bag can be wiped clean.
- More disposables – Use disposable sponges when possible, my favorite are by Alcone.
- Cover your makeup. Keep your makeup covered at all times. I use a disposable table cloth.
- Sanitize your makeup Add makeup sanitizing spray to your kit and use it. I’ve bee using Cinema Secrets Makeup Sanitizing Spray
- Always sure you are using a spatula and disposable palette to remove and apply products.
- Make sure you have enough makeup brushes. Create sets so that you have clean brushes to use on each client. I keep mine separated in clear zippered pouches so that the client knows the brushes are clean and ready for them.
